Philipp Bohnen
Philipp Bohnen is a German violinist performing internationally as soloist, chamber musician and member of the Berliner Philharmoniker.

Philipp Bohnen, born in Kiel in 1983, studied violin at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin with Prof. Stephan Picard and Prof. Antje Weithaas, where he completed both his diploma and postgraduate concert examination. During the 2006/2007 season he was a scholarship holder at the Karajan Academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker before joining the orchestra as a permanent member in January 2008.
Alongside his studies, Philipp Bohnen regularly participated in international masterclasses and worked with musicians including Wolfgang Marschner, Viktor Liberman, Herman Krebbers, Tabea Zimmermann and Gidon Kremer. He was also successful in several competitions, receiving First Prize at the national “Jugend musiziert” competition in 2001 and Second Prize at the Ibolyka-Gyarfas Violin Competition in Berlin in 2004. Since 2004 he has been supported by the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben.
Since 1995, Philipp Bohnen has performed regularly as a chamber musician and soloist. His concert tours have taken him throughout Europe, the United States, South America and Asia. He has appeared at international festivals including the Beethoven Festival Venezuela and the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, where he was awarded the NORDMETALL Ensemble Prize in 2011.
As a soloist and chamber musician, he has performed with ensembles and orchestras including the Sinfonie Orchester Berlin, Hamburger Camerata, Haydn Orchester Hamburg, Kurpfälzisches Kammerorchester Pforzheim and the National Youth Orchestra of Venezuela.
In 2009, Philipp Bohnen founded the Mariani Piano Quartet together with Gerhard Vielhaber, Barbara Buntrock and Peter-Philipp Staemmler. Chamber music remains at the centre of his artistic work and has led to long-standing collaborations in a number of renowned ensembles.
